Meet the Manufacturer

PRESS RELEASE: MAKE IT BRITISH ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL EVENT

MEET THE MANUFACTURER

CONNECTING YOU TO UK FACTORIES

Weds 11th & Thurs 12th June 2014 The Old Truman Brewery, London E1 6QL

Make it British is launching the first and only sourcing event exclusively for British clothing, textile and leathergoods manufacturers this summer, called Meet the Manufacturer. This major two day event, held at The Old Truman Brewery in London’s East End on the 11th & 12th June 2014, will showcase the best British manufacturers in the fashion and textiles industry.

More than just a trade fair, Meet the Manufacturer will provide fantastic opportunities for UK manufacturers, designers and buyers to network together under one roof in an environment that is open and collaborative.  “Our aim is not only to introduce buyers from companies of all sizes to factories that can make their products, but also to inspire them with a programme of thought-provoking seminars led by industry experts that can provide guidance on manufacturing in the UK.” stated Kate Hills, the Founder of the website Make it British which is launching the show.

This inaugural event has come in response to what Hills saw as a huge increase in requests to the Make it British website from designers, buyers and sourcing directors looking for quality British factories to make their products.  “As enquiries for UK manufacturers has increased significantly over the last year I realised that there was no one sourcing event for buyers to attend to meet them all. The manufacturers were also contacting us looking to reach new customers. I found myself providing a matchmaking service between both parties, and quickly recognised that this event could streamline this service and bring added value”.

The Truman Brewery on Brick Lane is in the heart of London’s East End, an area that was once the home of many of the City’s weavers and clothing manufacturers. “It felt important to host Meet the Manufacturer somewhere where there was a strong connection to fashion and textiles” Hills continues, “but that was also easily accessible to the buyers and designers that want to meet them. In bringing manufacturers from all over the British Isles to this vibrant part of London we hope to further invigorate an industry that is still very much alive and kicking”

NOTES TO EDITORS

About Make it British

Kate Hills founded the website Make it British in 2011 as a way of supporting businesses that make their products in the UK. Starting originally as a blog, the site now incorporates a directory of British-made brands as well as resources for buyers and designers wishing to find British factories to work with.
Having originally worked as a designer and buyer for over 20 years Kate became increasingly frustrated with the dependence of British retailers on Far Eastern suppliers. Predicting that a UK manufacturing base would one day be essential if companies were to remain competitive, she set up Make it British as a way of giving something back to the industry.
